Episode 146 – In Conversation with Mark Buckingham!

by Chris Thompson

With Mark Buckingham …

On this episode, I sit down for a chat with writer/artist Mark Buckingham (Fables, Fairest, Miracleman). We discuss his early work as an animator with Aardman, working with Neil Gaiman on The Truth & Miracleman, his breakthrough as an inker in the ’90s, and what brought him back to pencilling again. We would’ve got further, but time was against us – so expect a follow-up soon.

Plus: as an extra bonus, the second-half of the episode features Mark walking guests through his recent exhibition at the Orbital Gallery, followed by a brief Q&A. There’s some really great stuff discussed throughout, so I hope you’ll stay with us through this slightly longer episode!

Episode 90 – Doc Frankenstein Returns with Steve Skroce!

by Chris Thompson

With Steve Skroce …

After last week’s catch-up with Jeremy Holt & Tim Daniel (which you can still listen to here), this time around I’m very pleased to welcome aboard the amazing Steve Skroce, whose series Doc Frankenstein will see its long-awaited conclusion from Burlyman Entertainment this summer.

Steve and I discuss how it feels coming back to comics after an extended break, what he’s been working on in the interim, why it’s taken so long for Doc Frankenstein to return, and how his style has changed over time. It’s a fascinating glimpse into to an artist I’ve admired for many years now!

Episode 84 – Forging an Iron Fist with Kaare Andrews!

by Chris Thompson

With Kaare Andrews …

After last week’s chat with Rick Remender (which you can still listen to here), this time I catch up with writer/artist/all-round-creator-and-good-guy Kaare Andrews (The Incredible Hulk, A + X, Spider-Man: Reign) to talk about his run on Iron Fist which begins this week from Marvel Comics.

Kaare & I talk about everything from auteur theory to childhood comicbook memories – taking in groupthink, the debate over San Diego Comic-Con, the difference between comics and films, and why there aren’t more writer/artists these days. It’s a fun and fascinating discussion that will hopefully leave you thinking …

Linktastic – Classic Marvel & DC Covers Get Animated

by Chris Thompson

Halo & Sprocket creator Kerry Callen has come up with a clever new twist on some classic Marvel & DC covers. Credit goes to Chris Muscat from Malta Comic Con for pointing them out, which I knew just had to be shared. I’ve included a couple of samples below, and the rest can be viewed on Callen’s blog (along with some other interesting bits and pieces) … Enjoy!
