Episode 148 – Return To Oz with Skottie Young!

by Chris Thompson

With Skottie Young …

Returning to the traditional model of Skype interviews, I pick up my conversation with writer/artist Skottie Young (Rocket Raccoon, Giant-Size Little Marvel: AVX) after our initial meeting at SDCC back in July. If you haven’t already heard that, then you can listen to it here.

We discuss how Skottie ended up working on the Oz books with Eric Shanower, what he thinks about all the Marvel variant covers, and take a brief glimpse at his new series I Hate Fairyland. There’s definitely more to be discussed, so look for a follow-up (and a related special) soon.

Episode 143 – In Conversation with Steve Orlando at SDCC!

by Chris Thompson

With Steve Orlando at SDCC …

On this week’s show, I’m joined by James & Liz for a wine-tasting under the guidance of writer Steve Orlando (Undertow, Virgil). Steve discusses the finer points of Californian pinot gris, then opens up about how he got the job on Midnighter at DC Comics, what plans he has for the series, and how his own experiences have informed the character.

This interview was conducted at an outdoor restaurant during the madness of San Diego Comic-Con International, so there is some background ambience, shall we say. It’s a little different to the norm, but then isn’t that what you’d expect of a wine-tasting podcast?

Over a few tasty beverages on the roof of San Diego’s Stone Brewing Co. we discuss what the guys are working on right now, the state of comics today, and whatever else comes to mind. It’s the kind of chaos you’ve come to expect in a climate that can only be described as idyllic!

Episode 138 – In Conversation with Skottie Young at SDCC!

by Chris Thompson

With Skottie Young at SDCC …

After last week’s Ant-Man review, plus the Traditional vs. Digital Art panel from NICE convention, this week I’m back with the first part of my SDCC coverage as I chat in the bar at the Hilton Bayfront with the incredible Skottie Young!

In what has become the first of at least two parts, Skottie & I discuss his background in comics, how he broke into the industry, the path his career has taken, and how he feels about it now. The sound is a little challenging at times, but well worth it to hear us chat in this relaxed atmosphere!

Episode 100 – Going Batty & Beyond with Scott Snyder!

by Chris Thompson

With Scott Synder …

After last week’s chat with The Goon‘s Eric Powell (which you can still listen to here), this time I’m back for the BIG ONE – the long-awaited Episode 100 with Scott Snyder (Batman, American Vampire, and the upcoming Wytches).

In a very personal (and quite different) interview, Scott and I discuss what comics mean to him, the role his family have played in his career, how he deals with constant criticism and scrutiny, what it’s like chatting with Grant Morrison, and some of the lessons he’s learned along the way. It’s a very real glimpse behind-the-scenes of one of today’s best-selling writers.
