Episode 124 – In Conversation with John Allison & #Furious7!

by Chris Thompson

With John Allison & Furious 7 …

After last week’s debut of The Real/Fake Geeks segment with Maria Norris, this time I’m back with creator John Allison (Bad Machinery, Scary Go Round, Bobbins) to discuss the ‘return’ of Giant Days from Boom! Studios under their Boom! Box imprint.

John & I discuss how he first started out, the early days of webcomics when Geocities was still a thing, how people can become so invested in a set of characters, and what he’s planning to do going forward.

Then as an added bonus, we debut another new voice, Chad Armstrong, to discuss the brand new Fast & Furious 7 film. Chad & I chat about what we enjoyed most, how they handled the sad passing of star Paul Walker, and what people can look forward to if they’re on the fence about seeing it.

Episode 85 – Sifting Through The Remains with Cullen Bunn!

by Chris Thompson

With Cullen Bunn …

Following on from last week’s chat with Iron Fist‘s Kaare Andrews (which you can still listen to here) – this time around I catch up with prolific writer Cullen Bunn (Magneto, Sinestro, The Sixth Gun) to talk about the many books he’s doing, including The Remains from Monkeybrain Comics!

We talk about how he started out (both in prose and in comics), what he’s learned from working on so many different titles at the same time, how he approaches each new project, and why he loves Survivor as much as I do! (Hint: it’s kinda like what wrestling is for others.)

Episode 77 – Entering The Bunker with Joshua Hale Fialkov!

by Chris Thompson

With Joshua Hale Fialkov …

After the conclusion of my Angoulême Festival coverage with Paul Pope, Natalie Nourigat & Nicholas Hitori De (which you can still listen to here) – we return to our regularly scheduled programming this week with writer Joshua Hale Fialkov (Echoes, Skyman, The Bunker).

In what proves to be a rather frank (and lengthy) interview, Joshua opens up about how he got started, the personal trials and tribulations that have shaped his writing, and how he sees the industry today. It’s an entertaining & interesting discussion that I’d encourage everyone to hang around for.

With Matt Seneca …

It’s an all-Skype episode this week as I struggle to transmit out of Portmeirion (aka ‘The Village’ from TV’s The Prisoner) and chat with the ever insightful Taylor Lilley.

We discuss our anticipation for, and feelings about, two of this week’s hot new releases: Image ComicsLost Vegas #1 by Jim McCann & Janet Lee and Oni PressHelheim #1 by Cullen Bunn & Joëlle Jones. Did they live up to our expectations? Well, you’ll have to wait and see.

With Michel Fiffe & Chris Sebela …

Occasionally we miss stuff first time around (I know! We’re as shocked as you are), so this week Taylor & I take a look at the second printing of Django Unchained #1 from Vertigo/DC Comics. It’s an adaptation of Tarantino’s full script for the film by R.M. Guéra, Jason Latour & friends.

We also have TWO very exciting interviews for you to enjoy once again … First up, Taylor chats with Michel Fiffe (Copra, Zegas, Deathzone) about self-publishing, breaking the Kirby barrier, and much more.

Then I talk with writer Christopher Sebela (Screamland, Captain Marvel), who has just released High Crimes #1 through Monkeybrain Comics. We discuss how he started out, what avenues are available to creators, and how a network of Chrisses might just rule the world.
