Episode 136 – In Conversation with Charlie Adlard!

by Chris Thompson

With Charlie Adlard …

After last week’s chat with Jon Schnepp & Holly Payne about their new documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, this week I’m back with a retrospective of Charlie Adlard‘s career presented at the NICE convention in Bedford.

Charlie & I discuss how he first started out, the various stages his career has gone through, his desire to go creator-owned, and how The Walking Dead has changed his life since. It’s a glimpse into the life of an artist who has known success at many levels!

Episode 121 – In Conversation with Dustin Nguyen & more!

by Chris Thompson

With Dustgin Nguyen, Owen Johnson & John Pearson …

After last week’s Angoulême BD Festival special, this time I’m back with the incredible Dustin Nguyen to discuss his exciting new sci-fi series, Descender, from Image Comics.

Dustin and I discuss how he started out, the way his art has changed and evolved over time, what it’s like writing scripts as opposed to drawing comics, and how he approaches realism in a series like Descender.

Plus, as an extra bonus, I chat with creators Owen Michael Johnson & John Pearson about their new project, Beast Wagon, which is currently on Kickstarter. We discuss how they met, where the idea came from, and what they’ve got planned.

Episode 61 – In Bed with Ulises Farinas & Erick Freitas!

by Chris Thompson

With Ulises Farinas & Erick Freitas …

After last week’s chat with The Lost Boy‘s Greg Ruth (which you can still listen to here) and my recent film podcast with Before Midnight‘s Graham Reynolds (which you can listen to here) I climb into bed for an intimate discussion with writer/artist Ulises Farinas & his co-writer Erick Freitas (Gamma, Catalyst Comix, Amazing Forest).

It’s one of my rawest and funniest interviews to date, and it provides a nice insight into their process, as well as what happens when I get beaten at my own game …

Along the way we discuss Twilight, Ryan Gosling, where & how they met, the enduring appeal of anthologies, and why Monkeybrain was the right fit for them.

Episode 47 – Comics as a Catalyst with Joe Casey!

by Chris Thompson

With Joe Casey …

It’s a big week as Taylor & I tackle not one, not two, not three, but FOUR hot new books. First up we take a look at Jeremy Holt & Kevin Zeigler’s After Houdini #1; then dive into Ryan K. Lindsay & Daniel Logan’s Ghost Town #2 from Action Lab’s Danger Zone imprint; and finally turn our attention to Rachel Deering & Chris Mooneyham’s Anthema #1-3 from comiXology Submit. But it doesn’t end there, we also delve into Joe Casey, Dan McDaid, Paul Maybury & Ulises Farinas’ Catalyst Comix #1 from Dark Horse Comics.

We then bid a fond farewell to Taylor, who is moving on to other things, and chat with Catalyst Comix writer Joe Casey. We talk in-depth about his work with Man Of Action, what it’s like to juggle comics & television, his ongoing fascination with superheroes, and what keeps him coming back to comics. Plus we get his opinion on The Big Two, digital comics, the direct market, and more. If you’re keen to explore the medium and challenge your point of view, then it’s fascinating stuff.
