Episode 138 – In Conversation with Skottie Young at SDCC!

by Chris Thompson

With Skottie Young at SDCC …

After last week’s Ant-Man review, plus the Traditional vs. Digital Art panel from NICE convention, this week I’m back with the first part of my SDCC coverage as I chat in the bar at the Hilton Bayfront with the incredible Skottie Young!

In what has become the first of at least two parts, Skottie & I discuss his background in comics, how he broke into the industry, the path his career has taken, and how he feels about it now. The sound is a little challenging at times, but well worth it to hear us chat in this relaxed atmosphere!

Episode 119 – In Conversation About Angoulême BD Festival!

by Chris Thompson

With Karl Asaa & Paul Gravett …

Following on from last week’s inspirational duo of Sepideh Jodeyri & Miss Lasko-Gross, this week I’m joined by Karl to discuss our recent trip to Angoulême for the 42nd Festival de la Bande Dessinee d’Angoulême.

Karl and I discuss our history with the show, the numerous exhibitions we managed to see, some of the creators and fringe events we came across, and delve into the incredible swag we picked up along the way.

To close the show I chat with Paul Gravett about his memories of past festivals and how he felt about this year’s show. If you’ve never had the chance to go, here’s your chance to experience it vicariously through us!

Please note – the boutique publishers I refer to during the show are called Original Watts, and I highly recommend you check them out.

Episode 64 – Like a Shaolin Cowboy with Geof Darrow!

by Chris Thompson

With Geof Darrow …

Hot on the heels of my last episode with Riley Rossmo (which you can listen to here) and my recent film podcast (which you can listen to here) I bring the world of comics and film together with the legendary Geof Darrow (Hard Boiled, Big Guy & Rusty The Boy Robot, The Matrix) to discuss the long-awaited return of his Shaolin Cowboy from Dark Horse Comics.

We discuss his early years in advertising and animation; working with fellow legends like Jack Kirby, Jean Giraud (Moebius) and Frank Miller; his concerns about how people might interpret and view his work; plus his efforts to raise funds and awareness for PROTECT.

Episode 21 – Christmas with Emma Ríos & Guillermo Ortego!

by Chris Thompson

With Emma Rios & Guillermo Ortego …

Although our look at Marvel Now! may be winding down, this week Taylor and I have the hotly anticipated (at least by us) Morbius The Living Vampire #1 from Joe Keatinge & Richard Elson and New Avengers #1 from Jonathan Hickman & Steve Epting to enjoy.

We also present the long-overdue Christmas/New Year Special I recorded with artists Emma Ríos and Guillermo Ortego at Malta Comic-Con last month. Aside from sharing beers and cracking jokes, we make fun of my poor attempts at Spanish; discuss techniques and how they got started in the industry; share our mutual love for Brandon Graham, David Aja, and classic Westerns; talk about what’s coming up next; and much, much more!

All that and we continue to enjoy our BrewDog Craft Beers with the mind-blowingly strong Anarchist/Alchemist.
