Episode 119 – In Conversation About Angoulême BD Festival!

by Chris Thompson

With Karl Asaa & Paul Gravett …

Following on from last week’s inspirational duo of Sepideh Jodeyri & Miss Lasko-Gross, this week I’m joined by Karl to discuss our recent trip to Angoulême for the 42nd Festival de la Bande Dessinee d’Angoulême.

Karl and I discuss our history with the show, the numerous exhibitions we managed to see, some of the creators and fringe events we came across, and delve into the incredible swag we picked up along the way.

To close the show I chat with Paul Gravett about his memories of past festivals and how he felt about this year’s show. If you’ve never had the chance to go, here’s your chance to experience it vicariously through us!

Please note – the boutique publishers I refer to during the show are called Original Watts, and I highly recommend you check them out.

Episode 75 – Live from Angoulême with Joe Keatinge & friends!

by Chris Thompson

With Joe Keatinge, Heidi MacDonald & Bobby Chiu …

After last week’s chat with the gifted and insanely busy Zack Whedon (which you can still listen to here) – I’m back with the first of my reports from the 41st Festival International de la Bande Dessinée in Angoulême! This week I chat with Joe Keatinge, Heidi MacDonald, and Imaginism Studios’ founder/creative director Bobby Chiu.

First up, Joe & I talk about what he’s been working on since the end of Glory, and what’s coming up next. Then Heidi chats about her first Angoulême experience and how it’s affected her view of US shows. Finally, Imaginism Studios’ Bobby Chiu discusses their animated comic Niko & the Sword of Light, plus their continued work in film.
