Event – Labyrinth Masked Ball at The PCC London

by Chris Thompson

will always hold a special place in my heart … Not only does it have one of my favourite singers, but it also features one of my lifelong crushes (I’ll leave you to figure out which is which). So you can imagine my excitement when The Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square announced their first Labyrinth-themed Masquerade Ball & Party for November 12.
The night kicked off at 8pm with drinks and music in the downstairs bar. Most people were in fancy dress of some description and a few had really gone all-out. As for me, I donned my tux and a Venetian mask for the occasion – simple yet elegant. Around 8.45pm we were ushered into the cinema where we were given questionnaires to fill out in order to win a bottle of bubbly. I can’t resist a bit of bubbly, so I happily complied.
Just after 9pm, the evening’s entertainment began with ‘Jareth the Goblin King’. He had the right look, tone and intonation – it was as if the Thin White Duke were there himself. We managed to film a brief segment of ‘Jareth’ coaching the audience on what to do when certain characters appear on screen. He was just about to announce the winner of the contest when we stopped filming … which is a real shame because the winner was me!
The night was such a success that another two Labyrinth balls have been planned before the end of the year. I highly recommend going and getting a Prince Charles membership while you’re there. Not only will it save you money on all the great films they’ve got coming up, but it gives you discounts at various retail outlets around town … Membership has its rewards!
